Specialist German healthcare investor to support further capacity expansion and sustainable growth of the Geleen-based pharmaceutical company
GELEEN, 14 juli 2026 - Basic Pharma based in Geleen, is entering its next phase of growth together with SHS Capital. The specialist German healthcare investor has acquired a majority stake in the company and brings financial strength, sector expertise and an international network to support the implementation of Basic Pharma's existing strategic plan and the expansion of its production capacity. Basic Pharma will continue to operate under its own name, with the current management team remaining responsible for the company's day-to-day leadership
Further opportunities for growth
Since its establishment in 2003, Basic Pharma has grown into an integrated pharmaceutical company and full-service Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO). The company supports an international client base with pharmaceutical manufacturing, product development, product registration and specialist consultancy services.
Basic Pharma specialises in the development and manufacture of nasal sprays and other pharmaceutical products, including creams and ointments. A distinguishing feature is its integrated license-and-supply model: Basic Pharma develops and manages its own product dossiers, licenses them to distributors and pharmaceutical partners, and supplies the associated products. In doing so, the company brings together product development, registration, pharmacovigilance and GMP manufacturing within a single pharmaceutical platform.
The strong growth achieved in recent years, driven in part by demand for nasal sprays, creams and new prescription-only products, will make an expansion of production capacity necessary over time. With SHS Capital, Basic Pharma will have additional opportunities to invest in capacity, new products and international growth. These plans also offer prospects for the company's continued development and for employment in the Sittard-Geleen region.
"For more than twenty years, we have built Basic Pharma together with a highly committed team and loyal customers," said Bob Kool, founder and CEO of Basic Pharma. "It was important to me to find a partner that genuinely understands our company, values our employees and shares our ambitions. In SHS Capital, we have found a highly experienced and specialised investor that wants to build on everything we have developed together. This will enable us to pursue the growth and long-term success of Basic Pharma in a focused manner."
"Basic Pharma is exactly the type of company we look for: a specialized European healthcare champion with a differentiated business model, proprietary dossiers and significant untapped international potential," says Dr. Cornelius Maas, Partner at SHS Capital. "We look forward to supporting the team in the next phase of growth, organically and through selective acquisitions."
Continuity for customers, partners and employees
The arrival of SHS Capital gives Basic Pharma greater scope to invest in further growth and organisational development. Employees will remain employed by their current employer, and their existing employment contracts and terms and conditions will remain unchanged. Day-to-day activities, responsibilities and ongoing projects will also continue as normal.
Existing contracts and agreements with customers, suppliers and business partners will remain in force. They can continue to rely on the same level of service and on compliance with the applicable GMP and GDP requirements, ISO standards and other relevant laws and regulations.
Management and new shareholder structure
Bob Kool will remain CEO and will reinvest in Basic Pharma, ensuring his continued close involvement with the company under the new shareholder structure. Harry Relouw will remain CFO. Cyrille De la Haye, Chief Operating Officer, will join the statutory management board. The works council was involved throughout the process and issued a positive opinion on SHS Capital's investment.
SHS Capital's investment marks the end of the involvement of Brightlands Venture Partners (BVP), Particon and co-founder Jacques Havermans as shareholders. BVP had been involved with Basic Pharma since 2005, while Particon joined as an investor in 2011.
"We have seen Basic Pharma grow into a major player within the Dutch life sciences ecosystem," says Casper Bruens, Managing Partner at Brightlands Venture Partners. "We are proud to have contributed to that development and are confident that, together with SHS Capital, the company will be able to further realise its growth plans."
"BVP and Particon supported us at important moments. Jacques Havermans also played a significant role in the development of Basic Pharma as a co-founder. I would like to thank them for their many years of involvement and for everything we have built together," Bob Kool concludes.
Van Lanschot Kempen acted as financial advisor to Basic Pharma and its shareholders and AKD as legal advisor. deBreij acted as legal advisor to SHS.
