Histone H3
Histone H3 is a core component for the nucleosome, which is a complex present in chromatin and essential for DNA packaging in the nucleus. It plays a key role in gene regulation through post-translational modifications, influencing processes such as transcription, DNA repair, and cell division.
A pure, single Histone variant
Traditionally, histones are extracted from animal products like calf thymus, resulting in a mix of protein variants. However, we have developed a bacterial expression system, Escherichia coli, that is able to produce a single Histone variant. Through meticulous upstream process development (gene integration and fermentation) and refined downstream purification techniques (filtration and chromatography), we can produce a single, high-purity (>95%) histone variant, Histone H3, without relying on animal products.

Applications
In recent studies it was found that Histone H3 has a relation to the progression of sepsis. Additionally, Histone H3 was observed to be of relevance in research areas related to cancer and genetical deficiencies.
